Lemon Tonic Recipe (not for cats): lemon is an effective skin toner and a parasite repellent because it contains d-limonene, among other substances. Thinly slice a whole lemon, including the peel. Add to a pint of near-boiling water and steep overnight. Sponge onto your pet's skin and coat and let air dry. Can be used daily.
The original article is no longer available – but this recipe is good for homemade dog flea and tick repellent. Make sure to do a little test spot (with diluted oil or spray) to make sure you aren’t allergic to the oil. Spray To repel ticks on pets and humans
5 drops Rose Geranium oil
1 drop each Lemongrass and Peppermint oil
4 oz water
Fill all the ingredients in an empty, clean spray bottle. Spray all over clothes and shoes before going on hikes on grassy trails. You can also spray your pet with this safe, gentle rose geranium tick repellent recipe.
Comb very carefully to look for flea dirt – looks like little coffee grounds and dissolves into blood spots when you put a drop of water on them. The main place to look is the area on the lower back by the tail. It is really important to get the house vacuumed up (couches and under cushions).
Steam clean couches, carpet, baseboards.

Wash bedding and covers wherever else your pet hangs out – twice weekly for starters.
Apply agricultural lime on grass and moist areas - it helps dehydrates fleas, but is not a stand alone solution.
Apply live beneficial nematodes https://geni.us/6zpFrAD to grass and soil - these microscopic organisms (and ants, as well) feed on eggs and larvae, and also control grubs. They are usually applied every 6 weeks and are an efficient flea control method for out-of-doors.
On the other hand – you can use Advantage, Revolution or Frontline Plus. I can’t say that it is as safe as going with the natural products, but most pets do well with these products (consult your veterinarian for heartworm tests, MDR1 gene in dogs, general wellness consulting). Please DYOR on oral conventional flea prevention products, many of these have a rare side effect of causing seizures in some pets.

I love this mop so much, I have one for Idaho and one for Washington. I usually still do a quick vacuum around and then mop, but you don't have to with this mop - vacuums and mops as it goes.
